Au­thors at Bal­fron

Pupils at Bal­fron High School were vis­ited by au­thors Cathy MacPhail and Alex Gray last week as part of the Bloody Scot­land book fes­ti­val.

Cathy, who writes spooky thrillers for younger read­ers, gave a talk to all S1 and S2 pupils.

Be­fore be­com­ing a chil­dren’s au­thor she wrote short sto­ries for mag­a­zines, com­edy pro­grammes for ra­dio and two ro­man­tic nov­els. She was in­spired to write her first chil­dren’s book af­ter her daugh­ter was bul­lied at school and aims to get to the heart of se­ri­ous, top­i­cal is­sues through the sto­ries of her feisty char­ac­ters.

Cathy has won the Royal Mail Book Award twice.

Alex Gray has pub­lished 13 crime nov­els set around Glas­gow.
