Grand Slam champs Andy and Jamie Murray’s young cousin and her teamates in Beaconhurst girls’ tennis squad have won the Scottish final of the British Tennis Schools Championship.

Cora Erskine and her pals beat rivals Strathallan School during the final earlier this month.

The girls will now travel to Sunderland in November for the next round of the annual AEGON Team Tennis competition – the North of Britain final.

Judith Graham, Beaconhurst School’s Director of Sport, was delighted with the girls’ performances.

They won three of their four singles matches and both sets of doubles.

She said: “It was a good day of tennis and we saw fantastic play and great matches from the girls.

“They are a real credit to the school and we’re now looking forward to the next round of the contest.”

The winning team was made up of Kirsty Robertson, Katie Bradley, Eilidh Davidson and Wimbledonwinning Murray brothers’ cousin Cora .

Following the event, S1 pupil Eilidh travelled to Glasgow to compete for Scotland in the 2017 Four Nation’s Junior Championships held at Scotstoun Leisure Centre.

Fellow pupil Connor Thomson (S6) also represented his country at the Championships while Chris Horgan (S3) was first reserve in the Scottish Squad for his age category.

Meanwhile, Beaconhurst will be up against teams from three North of England schools when they travel to Sunderland for November’s final of the Aegon Team Tennis contest.

If successful, they will head to the national final of the prestigious UK-wide tournament in Bolton, Lancashire in December.
