School’s 50th year
Cambusbarron Primary is gearing up to mark its 50th birthday in style.
The school celebrates the landmark anniversary this year and organisers are set to launch their own museum, documenting its history.
A display looking back over the last half century of the school’s life will be mounted in Cambusbarron Comunity Centre.
The school’s youngest Primary 1 pupil and one of its original 1967 Primary 1 intake will perform the ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the exhibition on October 4 at 1.30pm.
Organisers are now calling on past pupils and staff from the school and nursery to visit the display.
There will also be a procession through the village by the school children on Friday, October 6, leaving the school at 1.30pm.
This is to re-enact the journey of the pupils in 1967 to the new school and will end at the community centre where there will be a cafe open for anyone wishing to tour the museum before it closes at 3pm.
The museum will be open to visitors on October 4 from 1.30pm until 4pm, October 5 from 8.30am until 1pm and again from 3pm until 7pm and October 6 from 8.30am until 3pm.
The group has been collecting old school photo’s and memories via their facebook page www.facebook. com/cbps50/ and email address cbps50@yahoo.com and contacts in the community.
