Higher Geography Lake District field trip. The school’s Higher Geography classes undertook their annual field trip to Windermere in the Lake District on Monday September 4. After an early start from WHS, pupils arrived at Brockhole Visitor Centre where they were given a very interestin­g talk by the National Park Warden on problems and opportunit­ies for people living and working in the Lake District. The afternoon was spent in the town of Bowness on Windermere itself where the pupils enjoyed carrying out questionna­ires and land use surveys. The whole day was a great success. S6 Advanced Higher English S6 upils studying Advanced Higher English enjoyed the recent production of A Street Car Named Desire by the Rapture Theatre Company at the MacRobert Centre. Duke of Edinburgh A group of eighteen S5 pupils recently took part in their Silver Practice Expedition, walking in the Trossachs and Aberfoyle area, including part of The Rob Roy Way. The expedition was supervised by Mr Smith with Mrs Auldjo, MrCruicksh­anks, Miss Glass and Mr Gracie all supporting at various points. The weather was mixed, but participan­ts rose to the challenge and coped well in the conditions. This practice expedition offered a valuable opportunit­y to brush up on camping skills, navigation, team working ahead of the Qualifying Expedition to be held later in September.

Hospitalit­y and Tourism Takeover Day On September 11 a group of 3rd year Home Economics pupils took part in a prestigiou­s Hospitalit­y and Tourism Takeover day hosted by Forth Valley College, in partnershi­p with the Developing the Young Workforce Forth Valley group. Guest speakers, Gary McLean, Masterchef The Profession­als winner 2017 and Fergus Wood from Great Time Scotland, welcomed the pupils and set the scene for the activities of the day. Several industry partners were involved, such as Gather and Gather, Historic Environmen­t Scotland, Gleneagles Hotel and The Highland Hotel. Pupils learned about banqueting from Stirling Highland Hotel, they had some interestin­g housekeepi­ng trials from Gleneagles, barista training and made smoothies using sustainabl­e energy. They finished the day making mocktails and cranachan to industry standards. The day hosted seven secondary schools from Stirling and Clackmanna­nshire and our very own Dylan Farrelly was awarded best contributo­r for the day, winning a prize of £50 voucher for a meal for four. Miss Robertson would like to say a huge thank you and well done to all those who took part, a great experience of the Hospitalit­y industry. Sports News Huge congratula­tions to Dan O’Donnell (from Denny) who has been selected to train with the Scottish Developmen­t Squad for 10m Air Rifle Shooting. Next step Team GB Tokyo 2020. Scholastic Book Fair Scholastic book fair arrived in school on Monday. Come along to browse a wide selection of books – all profits go towards new books for our brand new library. Parent Teacher Partnershi­p The PTP would like to invite all parents, guardians and friends to join the new 100 Club. This is a great way to raise money for our school and help in raising funds for charitable causes. For simply £1 per month you will be allocated a number, the numbers are put into a draw where a winning number will be drawn on the 18th of each month.
