The Rotary Club of Callander and West Perthshire is rallying round in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.

It wants to send urgent help to the many people in desperate need in the British Caribbean Territories following the devastation.

Club president Jen Shearer said: “Worryingly, yet more strong hurricanes and storms are forecast in the area, which are again expected to have a serious impact on people in that same region.

“As a community organisation, we want to reach out and support the people to survive these natural disasters.

“Shelterbox are currently co-ordinating the provision of aid across five countries, including Antigua and Barbuda and the British Virgin Islands.

“They have a variety of aid in the Caribbean, so they can tailor their response to best support different communities. On some islands, there will be the natural resources available to quickly rebuild homes with the help of a ShelterKit.

“Elsewhere, Shelterbox tents will be the best option – creating a warm, safe home while the long clean-up process takes place.

“Shelter Box have a strong relationship with Rotary and have a world-wide reputation for excellent logistics to deliver help where it is needed - fast.

“With the amazing support of people in our local community, our club was able to provide three Shelter Boxes for the people who were left homeless by the Nepal earthquake in 2015.

“Now we need to ask for your generous help again, this time for the people of British Caribbean Territories, following the horrendous impact of Hurricane Irma and others that are following in its wake.

“We know that many people have been moved by the horrific scenes in the media.”
