-

A `high frier’ working in Tyndrum is challenging for a top award.

Magda Ganea ,of the Real Food Café , has been named as one of the UK’s top young fish friers and is a finalist in the Drywite young fish frier of the year competition.

It’s one of 15 categories in the 2018 national fish and chip awards.

Magda is set `batter it out’ against four other contenders in bid to crowned the UK’s best young fish frier.

The competition was developed to encourage the fish and chip industry’s employees under the age of 25 to hone and expand their skills to become expert friers and positive role models for the next generation.

Magda has already faced a rigorous judging process, undergoing exam questionnaires and in-depth telephone interviews conducted by senior industry experts.

She also received a skills-based assessment and a personal interview during a comprehensive judging day at the National Federation of Fish Friers training school in Leeds.

She will now receive a “mystery”shop visit within the next few weeks when her practical skills in her own working environment will be under the microscope.

The winner will be announced at the National Fish & Chip Awards 30th anniversary ceremony in London on January 25.

A spokesperson for the Read Food Cafe said: “We couldn’t be more proud of Magda on reaching the top five .

“She’s the only finalist in Scotland this year and the last female remaining so there are even more reasons to wish her well.”
