More students to get degree opportunity
Partnership will pave way for engineering students
More Forth Valley College students are to be given the chance to study to degree level.
It follows the signing of an agreement between the college and Aberdeen University paving the way for those on HNC and HND engineering students to gain a degree.
The accord was signed last week along with a memorandum of understanding that will see the institutions work together in areas such as international engineering related programmes for low income countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia.
It comes as part of the university’s efforts to act on the recommendations of the Commission on Widening Access to provide more entry routes for college students who wish to continue their studies at university.
The agreement was signed by university principal, Professor Sir Ian Diamond, and FVC principal Dr Ken Thomson.
Sir Ian said: “The university has made great advances in the number of routes we offer to college students who wish to study to degree level, and the school of engineering is leading the way in this effort.
“This partnership recognises the similarities between both institutions, particularly in terms of our links to the oil and gas industry.
“The agreement provides a clear pathway for college students who wish to transition to our renowned engineering programmes, and we look forward to working closely with our new partners to explore more areas of collaboration in future.”
Dr Ken Thomson, said: “We have shared expertise in science and engineering and our students and staff are definitely going to benefit.”
The college has also announced a partnership with South Eastern Regional College in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, which will allow staff and students to engage in reciprocal visits, share best practice in the areas of hospitality, creative industries, creative learning, teaching and mentoring,
Dr Thomson, said: “This agreement strengthens our links with one of Northern Ireland’s best colleges.”
