Tuition by legend Liz
Four marathon debutants who have signed up for next year’s Stirling event will receive coaching from Scots running legend Liz McColgan.
The two-time Commonwealth champion will design a special marathon training programme while providing motivational support for the participants.
The Observer last week revealed details of the new marathon route for 2018 which will take in a section of the Hillfoots Road.
Following feedback from runners in this year’s debut event, organisers The Great Run Company tweaked the 26.2-mile course – which now starts and finishes near the city centre.
Anyone interested in putting themselves forward for the specially designed training plan should enter the Stirling Scottish Marathon at greatrun.org/stirling and email stirlingchallenge@ thegreatruncompany. com with a short statement on why they should be considered. The deadline is October 31.
Those who are successful will also be entered into the Simplyhealth Great Winter Run in Edinburgh on January 13 which will be a training event for the marathon. There they will get the chance to meet Ms McColgan and take part in a question and answer session.
Ms McColgan, a Stirling Scottish Marathon ambassador, was among the 4000-plus runners who took part in the first ever Stirling Scottish Marathon in May of this year.
It was reported that the inaugural event, which also saw thousands of spectators descend on the city, boosted the local economy by more than £1million.
Next year’s event will run on the earlier date of April 29.
