Worktofix flooding issueat playarea

- Chris Marzella

A play area at Dunblane Primary has undergone improvement works to stop rainfall causing flooding.

Parents of pupils at the school contacted Dunblane and Bridge of Allan councillor, Alastair Majury over poor drainage that caused ‘ponding’ on the surface.

Concerns had been raised over the P1 and P2 playground, especially after heavy rainfall, which has led to children being sent home in PE kit due to getting muddy at break, and the pickup location needing to be changed when the area was flooded.

Stirling Council has now addressed the problem and the work was carried out last week.

Engineers discovered and old clay drainage pipe was choked with debris. An extended new section of drainage has been inserted with better access for maintenance.

Councillor Majury said: “It was not acceptable that the pupils, parents and staff have had to put up with the poor state of the playground for the past few years.

“It must be extremely difficult for the staff to have to manage this every day during poor weather and why should pupils have to be sent home in their PE kit just because their play area is a mess?

“I hope the works carried out will now resolve the problem but if not there must be a commitment to continue efforts to ensure the poor drainage is addressed.”
