Milton grab points from league leaders

-

Giffnock North ....... 1 Milton .................... 2

Milton earned their first Caledonian League Premier Division points of the season with a fantastic performance against the current league leaders.

They started the match well and kept it up for the duration of the game and were unlucky not to take the lead when Mitchell had a rasping shot parried away for a corner after good play from Murphy.

Giffnock went ahead slightly against the run of play, but minutes later Milton equalised when Grieve sent in a tremendous cross and Watt headed it past the keeper.

The big strong home side were trying their best to bully Milton but the visitors were having none of it.

Gardiner and Anderson were controlling the middle of the park with Watt and Murphy causing the home team all sorts of problems with their constant movement.

Just before the break Watt set up Gardiner but his effort was blocked.

However, Milton were not to be denied and 10 minutes into the second half Gardiner headed a Mitchell corner kick strongly in the net.

Henderson was unlucky not to score and in the closing stages Giffnock hit the post and the bar, while Milton keeper McKay made a marvellous save to deny the home team and the three points were secured.

Milton are away to Port Glasgow Celtic in the West of Scotland Cup on Saturday.

Kick-off is 1.30pm with extra time and penalties if required.
