Riverside sunk as Camelon run riot

-

Riverside AFC ........ 1 Cameloan Jnrs ....... 6

Riverside were back in FVFDA League action on Saturday – but ended up on the wrong side of a 6-1 defeat.

The scoreline, however, doesn’t tell the full story as Riverside lost keeper Logan Barnes to injury after 20 minutes, although he battled on until half-time when he was replaced by centre-half Kenny Allan.

The home team also rattled the Camelon woodwork three times through Aaran Blackley, Harry Thomson and Kobe Furzer and controlled the game for long periods, but just couldn’t give enough protection for stand-in keeper Allan.

Camelon scored twice in the first 10 minutes with two long range efforts which caught out everyone including Barnes and this sprung Riverside into action with Furzer’s header forcing a fine save from the away keeper before Blackley’s header rattled the crossbar.

With Allan replacing Barnes in goal it took Riverside time to settle.

But they got back into the game when top scorer Adam Sharp took his tally to 14 with a fine finish.

It was now constant pressure from the home side, but time and again Camelon broke and took their chances well, scoring four second half goals.

It wasn’t Riverside’s day and although the scoreline was harsh, Camelon probably deserved the win.

On a positive note captain Jordan White returned from injury to collect this week’s GDWM man of the match award. The match was sponsored by Riverside Taxis and the club would also like to thank Greg at Gregor Davidson Wealth Management for his ongoing support.
