Milton survive late comeback

-

Milton moved into the fourth round of the West of Scotland Cup with a hard-fought win.

Port Glasgow started on the front foot and almost caught Milton out from the kick-off but McKay in the Milton goal parried the effort round the post.

The local lads gradually took a firm hold on the game and Gardner and Anderson started to dominate the midfield. Watt almost scored the opener after

Henderson set him up but the keeper saved well.

Milton finally scored when Gardner headed home a Mitchell corner kick.

Port Glasgow started the second half well and caused the home defence some problems and it came as no surprise when they eventually equalised with a well taken goal.

Murphy then set up Henderson, who hit the post with a left foot drive, and the keeper then made a brilliant save from Henderson only for Statter to pick up the loose ball to put Milton in front.

Shaddick hit a beauty for number three and right on the final whistle Port Glasgow scored a second, too late for a comeback.

On Saturday Milton are at home to Doune Castle, kick-off 2pm.
