Heroes and villains in groundbreaking show
Touring theatre company gives disabled people chance to star
Some groundbreaking actors are turning heroes and villains for a show being staged next week.
Stirling-based professional touring theatre company Theatre Broad also runs a Community Roots programme to give disabled people of all ages the chance to take part and experience live theatre.
Funded by the People’s Health Trust, the project sees professional actors act alongside the participants as well as support them in the rehearsal room and in the final performance.
Its latest performance, Bruce’s Quest by Gareth Candy, takes place in the Tolbooth on Monday and Tuesday (October 30-31) at 7.30pm and features superhero favourite Batman and his many foes, with some special guests from the world of sci-fi and celebrity.
Theatre Broad artistic director Carol Metcalf described the production: “It’s been 20 years since Bruce Wayne’s parents were ruthlessly taken by evildoers in Gotham City.
“We follow Bruce on his journey, as he goes back in time to search for the truth of what happened on that fateful night. As his quest unfolds, he realises his destiny as a one-man crime fighter dedicated to defending the innocent; and striking fear into the hearts of Gotham’s toughest criminals.
“With brains, brawn and Bat-technology he relentlessly pursues his archenemies; including The Joker, Two-Face, Cat Woman, The Penguin and Poison Ivy.
“Bruce is not alone on his journey, as friends old and new assist him along the way. Look out for his trusted Butler and friend Alfred, The Doctor and Clara, Scully and Mulder, Captain Jack with the Torchwood team, Queen Victoria and many other colourful, historical characters.”
