Women lose out despite battling

-

Pictures: Bryan Robertson Stirling came more into the game with some ferocious tackling and powerful ball carrying and their tenacity in defence was rewarded when Wanderers spilled a ball under pressure from Katie McIlwraith who hacked through with Lyndsey O’Donnell winning the chase to the ball.

Siobhan Cattigan added the extra points and at 10-7 County were back in the game.

Cattigan and Megan Kennedy posed problems with strong running but a breakaway try, which was to become a feature of the second period, enabled Wanderers to complete the first-half scoring.

Turning round at 15-7 County were still in this contest but a dropped County ball in the tackle was swept away along the Wanderers backline for a fourth try.

Further good work by the Wanderers pack resulted in the ball being won back and the same quick passing in the backs saw them score two further long range tries.

County heads didn’t go down, however, and the introduction of Mairi Forsyth gave added impetus to forward attacks as she and Kennedy continued to ask questions of the defence.

Despite another try by Wanderers, County continued to press. Heather Davies was brought down just short of the line after a sweeping backs move but shortly after they were finally rewarded for their hard work with a try for Mairi Forsyth.

Shortly after, Forsyth burst through several tackles and offloaded to Kennedy who went over for a try with three defenders hanging on to her for the final score of the day.
