First half class from Doune in cup clash

-

Doune Castle ........... 5 Kincardine ............... 1

Doune raced into the East of Scotland Cup third round thanks to an impressive first half display in a match when all the goals were scored in the opening 45 minutes.

Castle opened the scoring in three minutes when the visiting keeper blocked a shot from Lukasz Duszynski only for the winger to followit up to squeeze the ball home at the near post.

Ten minutes later it was 2-0. Aidan Peden drove a corner across the face of the crowded area and Chris Dougherty met it first time at the back post to rifle the ball high into the net from seven yards.

Kincardine were gifted a lifeline back into the game with a soft penalty award after 18 minutes but two minutes later, Doune restored their two-goal advantage when a Jonny Burns corner ricocheted between several players before Chris Dougherty stabbed the ball home from four yards.

After 34 minutes, Doune made it 4-1 with the goal of the game. Craig Sharp’s deft first touch sent him clear. He drifted past two defenders before dinking the ball high over the advancing keeper from 14 yards.

Before the interval, Doune made it 5-1 with another fine goal. Duszynski burst into the area from the left and didn’t break stride as he hammered a fierce first-time volley across the keeper and into the far corner of the net from 16 yards.

He saw two more efforts saved before the break and the teams turned round with a 5-1 scoreline in no way flattering an impressive Castle side.

To their credit, Kincardine demonstrated much greater resilience in the second half. They were much tighter defensively and did well to stifle Doune.

They also created several chances, but keeper Kieron McLeod dealt confidently with any threat.

Doune had one clear opportunity to extend their lead. However, the keeper did well to save Alan More’s diving header from a Craig Sharp cross.

The home side were frustrated they had been unable to replicate their slick first half performance during a dour second period, but were pleased to have negotiated a comfortable passage into the next round.
