Riverside earn draw at City

Stirling City ....... 1 Riverside U17s ...1

Riverside U17s were back on league business on Saturday when they visited last week’s opponents Stirling City.

Eager to make up for last week’s disappointment when they lost on penalties, a more attacking formation was deployed with Gary Laird coming back into the starting line up.

As with the previous week, it was a tight affair with Riverside controlling most of the play and Lewis Morrow, Harry Thomson and Jordan White keeping charge of the midfield.

Morrow and Laird had the best of the few chances on offer, with Ross Gilvear also firing just over with a neat volley.

Although in control, a lapse of concentration led to City taking the lead against the run of play when ex-Riverside player Ryan Dempsey took advantage to fire home.

Riverside came out fired up in the second half and continued where they left off with Laird and Gilvear causing the home side all sorts of problems.

On 47 minutes Kobe Furzer tested the keeper and it was increasingly likely that Riverside would now snatch a deserved equaliser. It duly arrived when White rose and headed home from a corner.

From there on in, Riverside were on top without creating that winning chance and had it not been for a fine Logan Barnes save City may have snatched victory in the 89th minute.

The GDWM man of the match went to midfielder Thomson.

On Saturday, Riverside entertains Balgeddie Colts in the Regional Cup. Kick-off is 10am at the Haws Park in Bridge of Allan.

Former Riverside player Harris Kemlo picked up a bad injury last week when playing with current side Stirling City 2002s which is likely to keep him out for some time. The club would like to pass on their best wishes for a speedy recovery.
