East of Scotland Cup

A strangely lethargic Doune exited the East of Scotland Cup at the hands of neighbours Dunblane, who finished worthy winners.

An even first half saw the sides locked at 0-0 at the interval but the breakthrough came after 65 minutes.

At full stretch, Alan More tried to intercept a cut back from the byeline but only succeeded in turning the ball beyond Kieron McLeod and into his own net to make it 1-0.

Dunblane were buoyant and were unlucky not to extend their lead but Doune then rallied and twice came close to forcing an equaliser.

The visitors sealed their win with a second goal after 76 minutes. MacDonald found himself in the clear after countering at pace and he showed real composure to stroke the ball into the left-hand corner of the net from 16 yards.

Doune tried to force their way back into the contest, but failed to create any clear opportunities. Dunblane came close to extending their lead and saw the game out comfortably to record a deserved win.

Doune Castle: McLeod, David Innes (Scott), Docherty, Chris Dougherty, More, Coubrough, Burns, McClure, Stewart, Inglis, Peden Substitutes: Gallagher, Morrison, Dormer.
