Police are warning farmers in rural communities to safely store their machinery after quad bikes valued at more than £3500 were stolen from two farms.

Officers are urging farm workers to ensure their plant and machinery is properly secured as a result of the incidents.

A thief struck at Tomrannoch Farm in Lochearnhead, making off with an unattended bike.

The red Suzuki Quadrunner 350, worth £750, was stolen overnight between 4.40pm on Thursday November 30, and 7.20pm on Friday December 1 from a yard.

The quad bike was not in a running condition and had the battery, the key and pull start mechanism all removed.

Just days later a thief struck at a farm in Blanefield. A two-yearold red Honda 420 Quad bike, valued at £3,000, was taken from Quinloch Farm, at Duntreath Estate, Blanefield. The bike was stolen between 3.30pm on Monday and 1pm Tuesday.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the bike being transported on the A81 around the area of the Glengoyne Distillery or who has any information that can assist them with their inquiries.

Inspector Jo Jollie said: “Inquiries are ongoing and areas are being searched.

“I would urge farm workers to ensure that their vehicles are safely stored to avoid any further thefts.”

Anyone with any information on either of the thefts is being asked to contact Balfron police station, quoting incident number 0527 of December 1.
