BBs all set for concert after silver win at champs

Dunblane Boys’Brigade Band gained a silver award at the regional heats of the Scottish Concert Bands Festival in Livingston on Sunday after impressing the adjudicato­rs with the standard of their instrument­al playing.

The band presented a varied programme of four pieces, including two works specifical­ly for Concert Band –‘Eagles Among Us’and ‘Lightspeed’– as well the Waltz No 2 from the Jazz Suite by Shostakovi­ch and an arrangemen­t of the Jungle Book theme,‘The Bare Necessitie­s’, featuring a Dixieland quartet.

Band conductor Fraser Boyd said: “Thanks to all the boys for their commitment and practice and to all the parents who came along to support in the audience on the day.”

The Boys’Brigade will host their own carol service at St Blane’s Church, Dunblane, on Sunday December 10 at 6.30pm. It will be presented by the group’s P7 boys and the BB band will entertain with musical performanc­es and accompany the carol singing.

A collection for Christian Aid’s Christmas Appeal will be held during the service. Everyone is welcome and there will be tea, coffee and mince pies in the church hall afterwards.

On December 22, members will hold their traditiona­l big Christmas food bank collection from 4pm until 7pm at the Cathedral Hall in Dunblane. All donations will go to help Startup Stirling’s crisis foodbank.
