Town enjoys festive fun

Christmas spirit fills streets

- Staff reporter

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Callander.

The switch was thrown on the town’s Christmas lights on Saturday in Ancaster Square by Callander Citizen of the Year 2016, Audrey Corrieri.

A day earlier Callander Amateur Operatic Society and Callander Junior Choir staged a musical performance at McLaren High School.

That was followed on Saturday by Santa’s Grotto, an arts installation of yarn bombing, musical performance by Callander Brass, fancy dress parade, organised by Callander Round Table, and the lights switch on.

Sunday was a day of festive family fun and featured a community breakfast and elves craft workshop held at McLaren Leisure.

That was followed by Santa’s Grotto at the Clanranald HQ at St Kessog’s, the movie ‘Rise of the Guardians’ was then screened at St Kessog’s and a youth Carol service – Partridge in a Pear Tree – took place at Callander Kirk to close Winterfest 2017.

The event was organised by Callander Community Development Trust (Callander CDT).

Anne Docherty, from Callander CDT, said: “It was a real community effort. The children had some wonderful fancy dress.

“Whilst Callander Community Development Trust organised the event, we worked with other groups, far too many to mention.

“We have to thank the Co-operative Community Fund who gave us over £1,000 towards this year’s Winterfest. Thanks also goes to Callander Community Hydro Fund and the Airtricity Fund.”
