Community Council The meeting of Killearn Community Council will be held in the primary school on Wednesday December 13 at 8pm. Bridge Club The winners of the Doris Kerr Teams of Four trophy, played for on Tuesday December 5 are Eileen Lindsay and Donald Kennedy/ Irene Hardie and Margaret English runners-up Ian Pascoe and Roger Sparkes/Margaret Chrystie and Patsy Muir-Simpson.

Guild Members and friends who booked are reminded of the Guild Lunch in the Lion and Unicorn on Tuesday December 12 at 12.15pm. Cancer Cards Margaret Diamond (01786 870429) has Christmas cards to aid Cancer Research available and 2018 diaries are in McNicoll’s Stores. School The parent council will again organise the Christmas Community Concert in Kippen Church on Wednesday, December 20 at 6.30pm featuring a cast of local talent. All welcome, adults £6, children free. Church Morning service on Sunday at 11.15am will be led by Rev Ellen Larson Davidson when the second Advent Candle will be lit. All are welcome. In the evening all are invited to a service of memories in Buchlyvie church at 7pm. Community Council Members of the public may attend when the council meets in the Reading Room on Wednesday, December 13, at 7.15pm. A Stirling councillor is available from 6.45pm. Badminton Next Tuesday evening is the last meeting in the village hall until January 9 at 7.30pm. Carol Singing Members of the Wee Sing again invite villagers to join them on Monday December 18 at 6.30pm to sing carols around the Christmas tree on Main Street for half an hour or so. Songsheets will be supplied and there will be a collection for Strathcarr­on Hospice. Brian and Debbie of the Cross Keys Hotel are again hosting this event. Community Concert Come and enjoy a host of local talent as the School Parent Council host the Christmas Concert in Kippen Church on Wednesday December 20 at 6.30pm. Adult tickets are £6 and children are free. Christmas Gathering This event in the village hall on Monday afterfirst. noon was again thoroughly enjoyed by the Over 60s who attended. Not so many dancers now, but perhaps some of the young ‘over 60s’ will be old enough next year! Once again Cameron Skinner’s four course dinner was much appreciate­d, as was the cheerful and traditiona­l music of John Burns and Billy Hutton. As Auld Lang Syne brought another cheerful gathering to a close, Joanna McPhail ably voiced thanks to all concerned in organising this happy event. Afternoon Tea Come along to the Reading Room this Sunday afternoon and by donation hear all about Torin Price, Cauldhame’s planned year teaching in the Solomon Islands. Tea/coffee and cake can be enjoyed between 2.30pm and 4.30pm as Torin starts nine months of fundraisin­g for £6,200 to enable his volunteeri­ng with Project Trust.

\Port of Menteith

Hogmanay The Port Hall Hogmanay ceilidh is happening again and tickets will be on sale soon, although there are already a few reserved. Christmas Fair On Sunday, December 10 in the village hall 11am-3pm. Entrance £1.50 adults, 50p child includes glass of mulled wine or juice and mince pie. All funds to the Port of Menteith Primary. Norrieston Church The Rev Ellen Larson Davidson lit the candle of Hope on the Advent Crown on the first Sunday in Advent. Remember others at this time by having the alternativ­e Advent Calendar when, instead of taking a chocolate from the calendar, we put a gift of food into a box every day until Christmas. The boxes will then be taken to Start Up Stirling food bank. SWI Thornhill SWI will have a Christmas meal in the Lion and Unicorn on December 20.
