Tolbooth is top trad’ music venue

- Chris Marzella

A Stirling music venue has been named the venue of the year.

The Tolbooth scooped the award at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards.

The award ceremony, organised by Hands Up for Trad, was broadcast live on BBC Alba, BBC Radio Scotland and globally through the BBC Alba website.

The Tolbooth’s programme and arts development officer Carolyn Paterson said: “We’re so thrilled to be given this award.

“It’s a wonderful endorsement for all the team at the Tolbooth and for all the tutors, participants, performers and audience.

“It’s a real boost as we look to expand our programme into the future and continue to nurture and encourage local talent.”

Stirling Council community planning convenor Chris Kane said: “Since its reopening in 2002 the venue has offered a nationally respected music programme, along with a complementary arts programme to encourage participation and learning.

“To be named venue of the year is a fantastic accolade and I am pleased for everyone involved with the Tolbooth that their hard work has been recognised.”

Councillor Neil Benny said: “This hidden gem at the Top of the Town thoroughly deserves this award and I hope it helps raise the awareness of this high-quality venue. I have been to lots of events there and would thoroughly recommend it for a great night out.”
