Join in Chanukah celebration
Chanukah will be celebrated by the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities at an event in Stirlng next week.
Conclusion of the eight-day Jewish Festival of Lights will be marked at a community party at the Smith Art Gallery on Tuesday, December 19.
The event, which will begin with candle-lighting at 6.45pm, will have entertainment, hands-on art activities, traditional games, and a kosher buffet featuring doughnuts, traditional Chanukah treats. Co-hosted by the Central Scotland Regional Equality Council and supported by Transition Stirling, it will give participants the chance to work with Tom Krasny and Roi Carmeli, Israeli community artists living in Scotland, to create beautiful tin decorations, inspired by Mexican art and perfect for Chanukah.
Fiona Frank, projects and outreach manager with SCoJeC said:“The spirit and enthusiasm of our artists and all participants will bring light into what can often be a dark and cold time of year. All are welcome to join us.”
The event is free, although donations are welcome (suggested £10, or £5 concessions) to help cover expenses.
The event is supported by BEMIS Scotland via Scotland’s Winter Festivals, a partnership between BEMIS Scotland and the Scottish Government, aims to facilitate diverse, multicultural celebrations. It is also part of the Bicentenary of Jewish Communities in Scotland programme.
Booking is suggested to help for catering numbers but not essential.
