Council Euro links are vital

-

I had to write in as I am astounded at the brass neck of Tory group leader on Stirling Council, Neil Benny, and his latest ramblings in your letters page (December 6).

Councillor Benny claimed that the current leader of council is unfit to do the job because he is to represent our local authority in Brussels.

At a time when our future is uncertain because of botched Brexit negotiations conducted by Councillor Benny's party, I am relieved that we have a council leader who is doing what he can to maintain relations with important organisations across Europe.

This is important to Stirling, which voted by more than two-thirds to remain in the European Union last year.

I would suggest that the unfit leader here is Councillor Benny himself. Ruth Davidson has permitted councillors who have demonstrated extreme views back into their party and is doing nothing about it. Councillor Alastair Majury is unfit to serve after his history of online abuse and scandal and shame on the local Tories for welcoming him back to their party with open arms.

Similarly, Councillor Benny was all too happy to let Councillor Robert Davies back into his party until he reportedly refused to publicly apologise for a series of offensive and xenophobic tweets.

Shame on Stirling Tories and shame on Councillor Neil Benny.
