Riverside got it right

-

Good to see in last week's Observer, regarding the C30 bus service, Riverside Community Council using its powers to get things done for their residents and members.

Yes, we should be pleased that we have this service but we are quite right to complain if there is cause.

Through council tax we all pay First Bus to run this subsidised service and as such we are their customers and should be respected as such.

I am told that the Stirling Council contract with First Bus did not even specify the size of buses to be used. Occasionally a sensible midi-size bus operates on the route but since the beginning of November huge 40ft, 44-passenger single deckers weighing nearly 10 tonnes, with a handful of passengers aboard, are driven into housing estates and roads which not designed for such large vehicles.

I live on the C30 route and have had to complain on several occasions to the company and also face-to-face to their drivers regarding exceeding the 20mph limit when going over the speed table ramps, causing vibration to my house. First Bus deny this is a problem.

I am now a member of a 16-strong Easter Cornton Road Vibration Action Group that has succeeded in getting good support from our councillors and Stirling Council road staff to sort our house vibration and speed problems in our vicinity by, hopefully, early new year.

I must say that First Bus drivers are generally saints in comparison with other coach and lorry drivers on Easter Cornton Road.

Well done, Riverside Community Council: give 'em stick to sort things quick.
