Bannockburn cruise to cup victory

-

Bannockburn ...... 10 Argyle ................... 0

Bannockburn made light work of their opponents as they progressed into round five of the Scottish Amateur Cup with ease.

The home side started brightly when chances from Robbie Todd and Ryan Weir were saved by the keeper.

They broke the deadlock after 10 minutes when Darren Walker found Steven Knox unmarked to stroke the ball into the far corner. Knox doubled his tally shortly after when he reacted quickest to knock the ball home.

Soon it was 3-0 when great play down the left between Dave Donaldson and Michael Weir allowed the latter to score.

Probably one of Bannockburn’s best plays of the day produced a fine goal when a host of one-twos between Knox, Donaldson and skipper Harry Bruce split open the Argyle defence and allowed Bruce to volley home.

Donaldson scored goal number five when he broke through the Argyle defence just before the break.

In the second period Knox claimed his hat-trick when a through ball from Kenny McLellan allowed him to beat the offside trap and make it 6-0.

Number seven came from Donaldson after Ross Cavanagh picked him out and Ryan Weir got on the scoresheet with goal number eight.

Dave Donaldson also wanted in on the hat-trick action after beating two men in the box and unleased a curling strike into the far left corner.

Cavanagh rounded off the scoring in the last minute of the game with his first goal of the season.

This result sets up a home tie against Saturday morning league side Glasgow South AFC on the first Saturday of 2018.

Bannockburn are away to Dunblane Thistle in the Premier League on Saturday.

The club thanked Tartan Arms for their sponsorship and hospitality.
