Mountain rescue go to aid of `model casualty’

-

Mountain rescue teams rushed to the aid of a walker who suffered a broken leg while coming down a peak near Tillicoultry.

Volunteers from Ochils Mountain Rescue Team were contacted by police at around 5pm Thursday, December 7, after reports of a walker taking a tumble while walking on The Law.

She had reported a suspected leg injury so rescue teams were tasked with quickly locating the lady, who is understood to be from the Edinburgh area, her companion and their dog in cold and dark conditions.

A total of 20 volunteers, including one doctor, responded quickly and the casualty was located less than one hour after the callout. Her injuries were treated and the team worked to ensure she was comfortable and warm.

A complex stretcher evacuation followed, with the party having the negotiate multiple narrow steps and bridge of the Mill Glen before arriving at a waiting ambulance at 7.15pm.

A spokesperson for Ochils MRT, who are based at the rescue centre near Fishcross, said:“The casualty and her companion were well equipped and had done the correct thing in phoning 999 and asking for the police, then mountain rescue.

“We were subsequently informed that she had indeed broken her leg and we wish her a speedy recovery.

“She was a model casualty who even had the time to compliment the team on a smooth stretcher carry.”

They added:“The incident proved to be a good example of multi-agency working with our colleagues in Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service and we thank them for their assistance at the bottom of the hill.”
