New equality groups launched

- Robert Fairnie

The Central Scotland Regional Equality Council are launching two new groups in the area.

CSREC have been involved in supporting and promoting events and activities aimed at spreading the message of equality, diversity, multiculturalism and community cohesion for three decades.

And this week they are kicking off two new people’s rights and equality groups specifically for those based in the Stirling and Clackmannanshire areas.

The inaugural meeting of the Stirling People’s Rights and Equality Group will take place at Raploch Community Campus on Drip Road from 6.30pm to 8pm tonight (Friday).

The first meeting of the Clackmannanshire group was held in Alloa Town Hall yesterday.

The idea is to get people living, working and studying in these areas to come together and discuss issues relating to fairness and social parity.

Arun Gopinath, CSREC manager, said: “The new fora we are setting up in Stirling and Clackmannanshire, Stirling People’s Rights and Equality Group (SPREG) and Clackmannanshire People’s Rights and Equality Group (CPREG), allows community members to raise and discuss issues on equality, diversity and human rights as they emerge so these ideas can be taken up with relevant authorities and practical solutions can be found.

“CSREC will support these fora with the principles of empowerment, participation, inclusion, equality of opportunity, anti-discrimination, self-determination and partnership.”
