BBs help food bank stock up for Christmas

-

Boys from Dunblane Boys Brigade are continuing an annual tradition this week by appealing for help with donations for Start Up Stirling’s food bank.

BB members have held a public appeal each Christmas for six years since responding to an emergency appeal in 2011 when another food bank was struggling.

This year they are again appealing to the Dunblane area to help to get the food bank’s shelves full for the difficult month of January.

Donation day is on Friday from 4pm until 7pm in Dunblane Cathedral Hall. Everyone is invited to come and donate whatever they can and BB boys will be on hand to take delivery, sort, repack and deliver the donations to Startup.

Donations are needed of non-perishable foodstuffs such as instant meals, tinned food, packets of rice, pasta, cereal, UHT milk, etc.

Those planning to hand over food are asked to check‘use by’ dates carefully. No alcohol can be accepted and, as this food will be distributed in January, Christmasspecific food is less appropriate.

People can also give household cleaning products, toiletries, baby needs, feminine hygiene products and nappies.

Startup Stirling has just moved to a new, bigger warehouse, in order to cope with a continuing rise in demand for their crisis food packs, which are supplemented with fresh produce using cash from donations.

Officer in charge, Junior Section BB, Fraser Boyd said:“If you’re after a last-minute present, Startup will also be selling Stirling Monopoly sets, profits from which will support the charity’s work.

“Even if you, like the boys, donate regularly at your meetings, school, workplace, etc. please consider an extra donation. January is a tough month financially for many families, with bills to be paid, seasonal supplemental work ending and fuel costs rising, so we need as much help as possible to ensure Startup can help everyone who needs it.”
