Jimmy in tribute to his big idol

- Chris Marzella

The Osmond who in 1972 gave the world `Long Haired Lover from Liverpool’ is on his way to Stirling.

Jimmy Osmond will take to the stage at the Albert Halls on February 15, with his band, for a tribute to mentor and long time friend Andy Williams, who died at his home in Missouri in September 2012, at the age of 84 years.

The 54-year-old will perform a set entitled ‘A Tribute to Andy Williams – Moon River and Me’.

Jimmy will salute his old pal by performing an array of Andy’s top hits during a whistle stop tour of the UK in the new year.

Speaking to the Observer this week from Aberdeen where he is currently performing in pantomime, Jimmy said he was looking forward to his visit.

Jimmy said: “I love it up here and I can’t wait to take this show on the road.

“Andy was such a good friend and it will be good to just take all of the greatest hits to the towns and cities across the country.

“I actually made my television debut on Andy’s show at three years old – it’s hard to believe that was more than 50 years ago now.

“So to take the show across the country is special to me. I can’t wait to go to places like Stirling. This most certainly is a labour of love.”

Jimmy will complete his run as the evil sorcerer Abanazar, in Aladdin, at panto in Aberdeen in early January and will jet home to Utah to spend time with his family.

He added: “The family will be coming over for Christmas. I’ll finish up my dates at panto, then after a quick trip home, I’ll come back to start the tour.

“You can expect all of the hits as well as old footage of a who’s who of Hollywood and I’ll also be giving my own memories of Andy.”

Hits will include Music To Watch Girls By, Happy Heart, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Almost There, May Each Day, Days of Wine and Roses and Moon River.

The youngest member of the world-famous Osmond family, Jimmy will also perform some of the chart-topping hits that made him and his brothers famous.

The tour kicks off in London on January 31 and Jimmy will play 36 dates, ending in Liverpool on March 16.

Other Scottish dates include Kilmarnock, Inverness, Glenrothes and Dundee.
