Book tour success for author Bert

- Robert Fairnie

A Stirling bookshop is the next stop for crime writer Bert Mitchell on his winter book signing tour.

Bert has been busy visiting stores throughout the country in the lead up to Christmas, signing copies of his published works for keen readers while also handing out free taster chapters of his next pageturner ‘The Shadow of Fear’.

The Stirling author, who writes as R.J. Mitchell, has already visited Paisley, Glasgow and Edinburgh, and his final stop will see him visit WHSmith in the Thistles Centre on Saturday (December 23).

He told the Observer: “The signings have all been going really well. I’ve been handing out free taster booklets of the first couple of chapters from The Shadow of Fear and the response has been great.

“It’s been nice chatting to some of the people who’ve read the books. Some people who already know them have come back to pick one up for a relative, so that works well.

“The books have been selling well too. At The Gyle in Edinburgh I managed to sell 56 books, second only to Graeme Souness – although there were people queued out the door for him and one of his lorries didn’t show.”

The Observer reported last month that Bert had signed a new two-book deal with London-based publisher Nine Elms Books.

‘The Shadow of Fear’, which will be released in the spring, is set in Stirling and tells the story of disgraced former SAS sergeant Ludovic Fear who finds himself incarcerated at HMP Barlinnie.

Rutheless crime lord ‘The Cyclops’ is monitoring his stay in prison and it is revealed that he has plans for a man of Fear’s expertise when he is reunited with his freedom.

The story is the first in a series of books with Ludovic Fear as the central character.

Bert will be in WHSmith at the Thistles Centre from 11am to 3pm on Saturday.
