-

JANUARY-FEBRUARY Andy Murray’s 2017 began with a defeat by Novak Djokovic in Qatar as he warmed up for the Australian Open.

The first Grand Slam of the year ended in round four, though, when he went down to Mischa Zverev.

Gordon Reid won the wheelchair doubles with Belgian Joachim Gerard while Jamie Murray and Bruno went out in round one.

Dylan Nguene Bikey scored twice as Stirling Albion beat Clyde 3-0 in the league and a 1-1 draw at Forfar followed. Clyde visited Forthbank in a Scottish Cup fourth round tie, drawing 2-2 before a run of three disappointing defeats at Annan (4-1), Clyde (3-2 in cup replay) and Montrose (2-1).

Albion bounced back with draws against Berwick and Arbroath and 1-0 wins over Elgin and Edinburgh City.

Bikey left for Hearts but former Rangers striker Andy Little was one of a number of recruits by boss Dave Mackay.

On the rugby field, County lost to Ayr, Watsonians and Heriots but still retained their BT Premiership place. They also reached the BT Cup last eight.

The club’s Under 18s retained the National Youth Cup and Stirling Knights Under 16 girls won the Scottish Cup in basketball.

In the Scottish Amateur Cup, Doune went out at the sixth round stage but Bannockburn, Dunblane Thistle and Tullibody Community were still in.

Strathendrick led BT West League 2 and reached the final of the West Regional Bowl while Andrew Butchart broke the Scottish Indoor 3000m record before running the fastest mile in the world this year.
