WASPI women aim to start Stirling group

- John Rowbotham

Moves are underway to raise awareness in Stirling of a campaign regarding the state pension arrangements of thousands of women.

Falkirk Women Against State Pension Inequality group has arranged a drop-in session in Falkirk Library, Hope Street, on Saturday, January 20, between 11 am and 1pm.

Its aim is to help and support women born in the 1950s who have been hit by the increase in the state pension age to 65.

WASPI campaigners say the changes leave the women affected – who expected to retire at 60 – with no time to put in place alternative financial provision to see them through to the new limit.

The group aims to help women begin the formal process of complaint to the DWP regarding the lack of notice and maladministration which threatens the future livlihood of the WASPI women.

Anne Campbell, who coordinates the Falkirk WASPI group, said they hoped to establish a similar group in Stirling.

She added:“The WASPI aim is for fair transitional state pension arrangements for all WASPI women.

“Ultimately, this means a bridging pension and compensation for those affected to cover the period between age 60 and the new state pension age. WASPI do not oppose state pension equalisation, nor are we asking for a reversal of any Pension Act.”
