Teaching postfilledat thirdtime of asking

- Alastair McNeill

A long-standing teaching vacancy at Bannockburn High School will finally be filled this month.

The school had been down a home economics teacher since January 2016.

The post has been advertised three times in total including the most recent advert.

However, Stirling Council said this week that someone has been appointed to the post and is scheduled to start this month.

The first two adverts for the post did not attract any candidates and the latest advert had one applicant.

The situation had been highlighted by a Freedom of Information request submitted to Scottish local authorities by the Liberal Democrats in November.

The party had asked each Scottish local authority a number of questions which included how many teaching posts had been advertised on more than one occasion, and how many applications had been received.

A Stirling Council spokesman said this week: “The vacant home economics teaching post within Bannockburn High School has now been filled and the new teacher is scheduled to start in January.

“Recruitment for Home Economics teachers has provided some challenges throughout Scotland.

“We work hard to ensure we fill positions in our schools and are delighted that a new teacher will start with us this month.”
