Big date for McCusker Drever, and Woombles

-

Three top Scottish musicians are set to mark the tenth anniversary of the release of their collaborative album with a special show in Stirling next week.

Kris Drever, John McCusker and Roddy Woomble will play one of their ‘Before The Ruin’ tenth anniversary concerts at the Tolbooth on Wednesday January 17.

The trio, who have all enjoyed success and accolades in their own right, teamed up a decade ago to record the album and since then it has gone on to become a word-of-mouth success – admired and loved by those who know it.

Idlewild frontman Woomble will be on vocals while Drever is on guitar and vocals and McCusker plays the fiddle, cittern and whistle.

They played more than 40 shows around the UK after the record came out in 2008 but have spent the last ten years working on their own projects – and this will be the first time they have been on-stage together since.

The tracks are described as a collection of melancholic and poignant pop songs.

Roddy Woomble is best known for being the lead vocalist and frontman of Scots indie rockers Idlewild.

Tracks such as You Held The World In Your Arms, American English and Love Steals Us From Loneliness thrust them into the mainstream in the early 2000s.

In recent times he has been touring My Secret Is My Silence – his debut solo album – ten years since its release.

And he is due to play his own show in Stirling later this year to mark the launch of his new album The Deluder, which takes a darker, more lo-fi direction.

Kris Drever came to prominence in 2006 with the release of his debut solo album Black Water. He is also the vocalist and guitarist of award winning folk trio Lau and has performed with other acts such as Eddi Reader and Kate Rusby.

He will also reappear at the Tolbooth later this year when he teams up with folk musician Heidi Talbot.

John McCusker is an accomplished fiddle player. He has a history with traditional Scots group Battlefield Band who have released more than 30 albums. He has also served as a producer and arranger for other artists while releasing several of his own solo records.

The seated show gets underway at 8pm. Tickets are £17/£15.
