Late goals earn Milton cup win

-

M’well Thistle ....... 0 Milton ................... 2

Milton’s first match of 2018 saw them move into the fifth round of the Scottish Amateur Cup after a 2-0 replay win over Motherwell Thistle.

The Bluebellwood side started the match on the front foot and only a last tackle prevented Shaddick from opening the scoring.

Milton looked good and won three corners in succession and while the home team looked rattled, they held firm.

The home side gradually got themselves back into the match and McKay in the Milton goal had to stop a few efforts while the Milton back three of Grieve, Whiteford and Galloway had some stout defending to do.

Harris and Mitchell worked hard down the flanks and Oxburgh, Taylor and Gardiner cancelled out the Motherwell midfield it became an intriguing battle.

Motherwell came out pushing for an early goal after the break and twice in a matter of minutes Milton had the clear danger.

Shaddick and McLaughlin worked hard up front and it was the former who opened the scoring with 15 minutes to go. Taylor fed Shaddick on the edge of the box and the big striker fired an unstoppable left foot drive high into the net.

Motherwell threw everything at Milton but the defence held on and with two minutes to go Taylor slid a fine pass through to Shaddick and as he rounded the keeper he was brought down. From the resultant penalty Whiteford hammered the ball past the keeper and Milton were into round five on Saturday when they welcome Uddingston Anvil to Bannockburn, kick-off 2pm.
