I’m Darren well chuffed at form

Top scorer had key role in their victory

Top scorer Darren Smith was delighted to play a key role in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Berwick Rangers as his double ended Albion’s six-match barren run.

The former Ross County and Motherwell frontman has now netted 18 times in all competitions this season, with 15 of them coming in Ladbrokes League 2.

He said: “It was nice to get a couple of goals because I went three or four games without scoring before the Stenhousemuir game on Tuesday and I was a bit annoyed with myself because I had some chances in those matches.

“I’m just embracing it to be honest, this is the best goalscoring season I’ve ever had and I’ll just keep working on my finishing. We do a lot in training and a few of us wait behind and do a bit extra. The second goal was just instinct and thankfully it ended up in the net.

“We’ve been on a terrible run recently and I don’t really know why. It’s been difficult to put our finger on the reasons behind it but we had a wee chat at training on Thursday night after the game on Tuesday and we just wanted to work together a bit better and with a higher intensity all over the park and I think that showed.

“When you are on a bad run the pressure builds up and negativity starts to creep in but we’ve always believed in ourselves because of the way we started the season. Getting a clean sheet and grinding out a result against Berwick will be good for the confidence.

“Peterhead have hit some really good form but all we can do is try to attack them and play our own game. Hopefully we can get something up there on Saturday because when we played them here recently we weren’t anywhere near the levels we can reach.”
