Kenny is hat-trick hero

Bannockburn ........ 3 Glasgow South ..... 0

Bannockburn booked their spot in the last 32 of the Scottish Amateur Cup with a rather robust but flattering 3-0 win against Saturday Morning League side Glasgow South.

Kenny McLellan’s expertise from dead-ball situations was the difference between the sides as the veteran netted two penalties and a late free-kick for a cup hat-trick.

Burn started the better of the sides but not really creating any chance to note and it was the away side who almost took the lead when they cut through the home defence only for the striker to blaze over.

It was Bannockburn who took the lead when Ryan Weir was brought down in the box.

McLellan stepped up and scored with the keeper guessing the correct way but unable to keep it out.

The second half started flat and both teams struggled to create any clear-cut chances but with 65 minutes gone, Bannockburn went two-up.

They were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and some neat play from Dave Donaldson and Stuart Maitland wrong footed the centre half who brought down Donaldson in the box.

Up stepped McLellan to double his and Bannockburn tally for the day with a firm shot straight down the middle.

The away side started to influence the game more and were awarded a penalty when Tobbie Todd fouled the striker in the box but Greig Maitland in the Burn goal saved down to his left to keep South at bay.

Only a couple of minutes later Glasgow South should have scored when their player leapt above everyone else only for Maitland to make a fine save.

Bannockburn then sealed their victory when McLellan turned in a fine performance when he scored his third of the game thanks to a free kick this time which nestled into the bottom corner.
