Cath takes a step back

- Chris Marzella

A well-known Callander resident who has served the town for over 35 years is stepping away from community involvement.

Cath McNab, 77, has decided to stand down as secretary and a member of Callander Community Council for health and family reasons.

Cath notified the community council of her decision following the December meeting.

She attended the January community council meeting, held at Callander Hostel, Bridgend, on Monday (January 8) evening, to bid farewell to community council colleagues.

Cath, alongside Mike and Brian Luti, has given over three decades of service to the council.

Speaking following her decision to step down, she said: “I couldn’t do what I used to do anymore.

“For health and family reasons I just found it was more and more difficult to keep going.

“I wasn’t pulling my weight, so to speak, the way that I used to do so I wrote to the chairman, Dick Johnson, and explained the situation.”

Cath was presented with a commemorative quaich from the community council to mark her time with them.

She added: “I wasn’t actually going to go to the meeting on Monday, but my husband, Billy, met Dick at the weekend and Dick told him what they had planned and he talked me in to it. I was going to just sneak away quietly. “It was lovely and a nice wee surprise. “I’m going to miss it because there has been so many great things that we have done. I’ve really enjoyed my time on the community council all these years.”

Dick Johnson paid tribute to the community council’s longest serving member.

He said: “She has been an outstanding member of the community council, carrying out the duties of secretary as well as contributing to all of the discussions, consultations and meetings which we get involved in.

“We all thank her for this contribution to the Callander community and wish her well in her retirement.”

The community council will also nominate Cath for the Stirling Council Provost’s Award 2018.

I couldn’t do what I used to do any more. I’m going to miss it because there has been so many great things that we have done. I’ve really enjoyed my time on the community council all these years.
