Anniversary concert
A group regarded as trailblazers for Scottish music will be playing a special Stirling show in their 50th year.
The Tannahill Weavers are set to bring their traditional melodies, driving rhythmic accompaniment and rich vocals to the Tolbooth on April 14.
The band began to attract attention when founding members Roy Gullane and Phil Smillie added full-sized Highland bagpipes to the on-stage presentations – the first professional Scottish folk group to do so.
And the combination of pipe solos, with Roy’s driving guitar backing and lead vocals, and Phil’s flute playing breathed new life into Scotland’s repertoire of traditional melodies and songs. The quartet is completed by fiddler John Martin and piper Lorne MacDougall.
