Walker rescued

-

A walker had to be rescued after getting lost in blizzard conditions near Strathblane.

A man in his 30s had set off from Killearn and was heading towards Strathblane when he got caught in a heavy snowfall on Tuesday evening.

Lomond Mountain Rescue Team (Lomond MRT) found him at the foot of the Campsies, near Strathblane.

The team received the request to help a missing walker shortly after 6pm after a worried game keeper who had spotted the walker earlier in the day raised the alarm.

The walker, believed to be a local man, was found in woodland shortly after 8pm.

David Dodson, from Lomond MRT, said: “The gentleman got caught out by the weather conditions. It wasn’t snowing when he set off, but the weather turned very quickly. He got disorientated and ended up lost.

“When we found him he was very cold and wet and wasn’t wearing the proper clothing for the conditions.

“We would urge anyone heading out or walking to be aware of the weather forecast, prepare for the conditions and make sure you have the necessary clothing and equipment before setting off.”

The rescue team were assisted by Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service.

The team recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, having been formed in December 1967.
