Blackout at council HQ after power outage
Stirling Council’s headquarters were plunged in to darkness following an electrical fault.
The council base at Old Viewforth was left without power as a result of faults to cables in Pitt Terrace.
The power outage occurred at around 6.30pm on Thursday, January 18, and also affected other properties near the council’s headquarters.
Scottish Power has blamed a problem with the low voltage network for causing two faults to the cables. A spokesperson added:“This affected nine properties. Engineers worked late in to the evening to get connections established to the affected properties. We have engineers still working in the area to fully complete the job.
“Temporary traffic management measures will be in place until the end of the week. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and our team of engineers will work as quickly as possible to complete all work in the area.”
The traffic management measures include signs, barriers and alternative pedestrian routes. Traffic is flowing as normal. Scottish Power will continue to monitor the work and review it as necessary.
Meantime, Stirling Council have been provided with a back– up generator at OldViewforth.
A Stirling Council spokesperson added:“Scottish Power provided a generator for Old Viewforth which is sufficient for us to continue to operate as business as usual until the repair is complete.
“Weather conditions have delayed repairs and Scottish Power hope to have these completed early this week.”
