Child rapist caught by his own footage

Abuse images on mobile phone

- Court reporter

A child rapist was caught after he filmed and photographed girls including his own abuse of a fiveyear-old victim.

Alan Johnson assaulted the youngster when she was asleep, claiming he was checking a wobbly tooth when she woke up.

Police uncovered his sex offending after they attended at his home near Stirling following receipt of information over child abuse images.

Johnson told the police there were indecent images of children on his mobile phone and went on to claim that he downloaded the material because of continuing stress at work.

Advocate depute Keith O’Mahony told the High Court in Edinburgh: “He said he viewed the images as a distraction and that he was usually intoxicated when viewing these, often deleting the images in the morning.”

But police also realised that the accused Johnson had taken photos of girls himself and a search through his phone and its SIM card revealed his abuse of the child.

A total of 192 images were found along with five short movie clips. Some pictures featured a girl in her underwear and others showed sex acts he committed on the youngster.

Some of the footage taken by the accused showed his hand with a ring and with him wearing a distinctive sports watch.

During an interview with police he also admitted that he had taken naked photos of a young girl.

The prosecutor said: “He also admitted randomly taking photographs of teenage girls when in public, discreetly and without their knowledge, but deleted these images after viewing.”

Johnson (44) a prisoner at Low Moss jail, admitted possessing indecent images of children on October 2 last year and making such photos between August 5 and October 2.

He also pleaded guilty to a vile sexual attack on the five year-old girl last year and to sexually assaulting the child.

The judge, Lady Carmichael, deferred sentence on him for the preparation of a background report and placed the first offender on the sex offenders’ register. He was remanded in custody.
