Erin McMeel

as there is so many plots that have fencing or something else around them yet Stirling Council has decided to pick on my dad’s grave.

“We think that maybe someone has something against the grave because of what is on it, and reported it. If that is the case, I hope the person who has complained is happy.

“How other graves can have different things and my dad can’t is ridiculous.”

However, a council spokesman said they were concerned about the impact of the memorial on surrounding plots.

A spokesperson said: “We understand how important it is for families to be able to pay their respects to loved ones who have passed away.

“We have a duty to make sure the cemetery is suitable for everyone and contact registered owners to inform them of the need to remove unauthorised items to allow interments to proceed safely, when a complaint is received and as a result of inspection.

“Unfortunately an appropriate application was not submitted on behalf of Mrs McMeel and the memorial was erected without the necessary authorisation.

“While retrospective permission will be given with regards to the memorial headstone, the granite kerbing needs to be adjusted for this to be agreed.

“If the kerbing is not adjusted it could impact future interments at the adjoining lair space.”
