Museum contoversy dominates social media

-

News that Stirling’s Smith Art Gallery and Museum could have its funding slashed if Stirling Council efficiency savings are agreed, prompted comment on our social media page.

Meghan Carroll-Ballantyne said: “Will there be anything left of Stirling after all these cuts? It’s meant to be a city yet it’s being cut from every sector. Who wants to visit a city that’s got nothing to offer?”

Heidi Docherty posted:“I think the Smith needs to promote itself much more in Stirling to appeal to tourists. As a newcomer to Stirling, I didn’t see any information about the museum and found out about it through a neighbour.”

Another cash-saving option being considered by councillors is shared headships in schools.

Craig Cameron posted:“Our education system is under severe scrutiny each year for poor results yet the council think its acceptable to look at shared head teachers. And how do they intend to improve results when they are unable to concentrate on one school?”

Michelle Gallon added:“Really? When they keep spending money on silly things like plants and flowers in the middle of roundabout and underpasses.”

Donna Cunningham said:“Who ever is doing this budget needs their books. Why don’t they job share and save the head teachers.”
