Bridge works on track
Kerse Road bridge replacement works are on track despite several recent incidents impacting traffic in recent weeks say council officials.
In a report due before tomorrow’s (Thursday) meeting of Stirling Council’s environment and housing committee, officers say the programme is on schedule and progressing well.
This is despite some unforeseen incidents causing issues last month.
These included repair works by Scottish Water to a collapsed manhole on Goosecroft Road on January 8, which overran without authorisation.
On January 23-24 meanwhile the A907 Alloa Road closed westbound due to flooding and subsequent clearance works and on January 24-25 there were Causewayhead Road temporary lane closures at the Cornton Road junction for a Scottish Power emergency fault repair.
Senior manager for infrastructure development Brian Roberts says in the report:“The current phase of works is progressing well and in line with the agreed programme.
“The traffic management plan and mitigation measures agreed for this period of the works have been fully implemented and are operating well.
“Several incidents impacted traffic flows during recent weeks. Whilst these were outwith the control of the council and Network Rail, council officers worked with the relevant agencies to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.
“The implementation of the remaining mitigation measure for the full road closure, specifically the installation of a pedestrian crossing nib on Springbank Road and the widening of Players Road adjacent to STEP to enable two-way traffic, will be implemented before the end of March.”
The programme is part of Network Rail’s electrification project which involves around 50km of track between Polmont, Dunblane and Alloa with a completion target of December 2018.
Phase three of the programme is currently underway with a one-way closure of Kerse Road to traffic until April 22.
Phase four - the full closure of the bridge - is scheduled for April 22 until October 23, when the existing bridge will be demolished and a full reconstruction carried out.
