Riverside Athletic annihilate fragile Falkirk

Riverside Athletic.. 11 Falkirk FC ................ 1

Riverside welcomed Falkirk to Wallace High on Saturday for their latest FVFDA Under 17s League game – but the visitors may had wished they stayed at home.

The home side played some sublime football at times but to their credit Falkirk battled throughout and showed some great character.

A bad injury to skipper Jordan White when he tore ligaments after twisting his ankle took the shine slightly off the win. The first goal arrived in nine minutes when Adam Sharp snapped up an opportunity and he added a second – Riverside’s 100th goal of the campaign – shortly after.

Kobe Furzer provided a great pass to Ross Gilvear for the third and Sharp completed his hat-trick in 22 minutes, bulleting home a free-kick from 25 yards before setting up Furzer for goal number five.

Before the break, Alan McLagan was upended in the box and took the kick himself to make it 6-0.

A raft of changes were made in the second half, however it was still oneway traffic towards the Falkirk goal.

Furzer played in Gilvear, who made no mistake with an excellent finish to the top-left hand corner just before White had to be carried off.

The game went flat for a period until Riverside won another penalty – this time however the away keeper pulled off an excellent save from Garry Laird.

He was determined to get on the scoresheet and made amends in 65 minutes when he beat the entire Falkirk defence to blast home.

Furzer scored his second of the day before Cammi Cirillo lobbed the Falkirk keeper with an audacious side foot attempt.

Falkirk grabbed a consolation in 82 minutes when the home defence were caught napping but Gilvear completed the scoring, four minutes from the end with another penalty, notching his hat-trick.

The GDWM man of the match goes to Kenny Allan who managed his defence expertly whilst creating chances for the midfield and forwards when he could. The club wishes Jordan a speedy recovery.
