5ive on a high to be returning with gigs

- Donald Morton

One of the UK’s biggest boy bands – who sold more than 20 million records in their heyday – is making a return trip to Stirlingshire in June.

Back in October, 5ive played at Bannockburn Miners Welfare Social Club to an army of their fans.

The group – now a three-piece – sang hits such as Keep on Movin’, When the Lights Go Out and If Ya Gettin’ Down.

Original members Sean Conlon, Ritchie Neville and Scott Robinson are still regularly taking to the stage to treat audiences to a healthy dose of nostalgia – with Abz Love and J Brown no longer part of the set-up.

And on June 16 and 17, they will be playing their hits at The Dobbie Hall in Larbert.

Heart FM DJ Lynne Hoggan will host and keep spinning tunes from the 1990s and 2000s well into the night and organisers are hoping that the audience dress up in their best 90s clobber.

Before the Bannockburn gig, Sean told the Observer that the band always had a good reception in Scotland.

The group initially split at the end of 2001 after a hugely successful four years which saw them release three top-selling albums – 5ive, Invincible and Kingsizem – getting back together first in 2007 and then in 2012 for the TV show The Big Reunion.

Sean said: “When we came back for The Big Reunion we just wanted to get together and put some things from the past to bed.

“However, we played a few shows and our agent kept phoning and phoning with more offers – getting gigs here and there.

“There were no plans to come back and play so many shows but as long as people want it, and they want the nostalgia, we’ll keep doing it.”

Tickets are now on sale for the gigs through www.eventbrite.co.uk/ e/5ive-at-the-dobbie-hall-tickets.
