Stolen £35k car is found

Hunt for three men after scare

- Robert Fairnie

A £35,000 Volvo which was stolen from a house in Balfron has been found in Glasgow.

People in the area were said to be on high alert after news of three masked men roaming the streets spread across the village last week.

The vehicle, a Volvo XC60, was taken from outside a house on Greek Thomson Road some time between the evening of Wednesday, February 14, and the morning of Thursday, February 15.

Those responsible gained access to the property and helped themselves to the car keys before making off with the vehicle – which can cost up to £35,600 new. Police in Glasgow investigating the crime managed to track down the car in the Maryhill area of the city on Friday.

They are still looking for those who stole the car and their investigation is ongoing.

Officers are linking the theft to a suspicious incident which happened on Barnwell Drive in Balfron, close to Greek Thomson Road, at around 2am on Thursday, February 15 – the same evening the car was stolen.

At this time a group of three young males, described as being in their late teens or early 20s, were found on the driveway of a property.

The female occupant of the house heard them and shouted at them before they made off through a children’s play area and towards Donaldson Way. The men were all said to be dressed in dark clothing. Two had hats on while the other was believed to be wearing a scarf.

Police believe the men may have been planning a break-in or theft when they were disturbed.

Inspector Donna Bryans was keen to remind people to ensure that they keep their belongings safe and secure from any woukld-bethieves.

She said: “We would just like to remind people to ensure that windows and doors are kept locked, while valuables and keys are kept out of sight and away from windows and doors.”

Anyone with information on these incidents should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
