Friends of park outline big plans

-

Stirling MP Stephen Kerr met with members of the‘Friends of Plean Country Park last week and toured the park located north of Plean.

The park provides a children’s play-park, dog-walking, running routes, and birdwatching opportunities all in a beautiful setting.

The former site of Plean Colliery has been completely transformed into a natural local attraction, but requires a lot of maintenance from the Friends to keep it accessible and well kept.

During the tour, the volunteers expressed their desire to make the park more accessible and promote much more local use. Currently, only 22 per cent of the park’s visitors come from the immediate area.

The volunteers’plans include resurfacing many of the parks walkways, most of which are in a poor state of repair. There are also proposals to locate a café in the park to encourage more visitors.

Mr Kerr said:“I was really pleased to have had the opportunity to tour this beautiful park and meet the dedicated volunteers of the‘Friends’group.

“They have my full support and I will do everything I can to assist them in their plans to obtain more funding and improve the area for everyone.

“This is a great place and I would encourage people from across Stirling to visit and see for themselves. Stirling is extremely fortunate to have so many public spaces and there are many, such as this park, that are not as well-known as they deserve to be.”
